Terms of Service
Last updated: June 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Rate-API website and API (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
Rate-API provides exchange-rate data through an HTTP API and related tooling. Rates are offered for informational purposes; they are not a quote or an offer to trade and may differ from rates available elsewhere.
1a. Data sources and attribution
Reference rates for the major currencies are derived from the European Central Bank, which is cited here as their source; the same data can be obtained free of charge from the ECB. Remaining currencies, cryptocurrency and precious-metal figures are derived from public-domain data. Where we have modified source data — for example by converting it to a different base currency, or by inverting a quote — that is a calculation of ours and not the source's figure.
1c. Equity data
Equity figures are end-of-day closing prices obtained from a publicly accessible third-party source. They are not real-time, not exchange-official, not consolidated tape, and carry no market-data licence from any exchange or listing venue. They are delayed, may be missing, revised or withdrawn without notice, and must not be used for trading, order routing, valuation, net-asset-value calculation, settlement, benchmarking or any regulated purpose. If your use requires licensed exchange data, you must obtain it from the relevant exchange or an authorised vendor; the Service does not provide it and is not a substitute for it. We may change or discontinue equity data at any time.
1b. No financial or investment advice
Nothing provided through the Service is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any currency, cryptocurrency, security or commodity. Rates and prices are indicative reference figures that may be delayed, incomplete, rounded, cross-calculated from another currency, or simply wrong. They are not execution prices and no trade can be made at them. You must not use the Service as the sole basis for any transaction, valuation, settlement, invoice, tax filing or financial decision, and you are responsible for independently verifying any figure before relying on it. If you build the Service into a product that others rely on, that responsibility is yours, not ours.
2. Accounts and API keys
You are responsible for keeping your API keys confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. We may suspend keys that appear compromised or abusive.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to: exceed your plan's rate limits or quotas by technical circumvention; redistribute, resell or republish the raw data — rates, cryptocurrency, equity or precious-metal figures — as a data feed, bulk export, or competing API; present the data as official, licensed or exchange-sourced; strip source attribution where we provide it; or use the Service to violate any law or third-party right. Using the data inside your own product to serve your own users is fine; passing it on as data is not. We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate access for violations.
4. Plans, billing and refunds
Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment provider. Quotas reset monthly. You can change or cancel your plan at any time; changes take effect immediately and unused time is not refunded except where required by law.
5. Availability
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, including accuracy of rates or fitness for a particular purpose.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rate-API is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any losses arising from reliance on the rate data. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the three months preceding the claim.
7. Changes
We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced on this page or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
